Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Executive Director (E.D.), the Human Resource Manager supports the overall provision of Human Resources services, policies and programs for the organization. HR Manager supports practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented, high-performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity and standards, goal attainment, and engagement.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Strategic Talent Acquisition & Onboarding: Lead the full-cycle recruitment process and design comprehensive bilingual orientation and onboarding programs to ensure new hires are aligned with the school’s Montessori mission and operational needs.***
- Employee Relations & Conflict Resolution: Serve as the primary point of contact for leadership and employee counseling and investigations; manage the corrective action process and Code of Conduct enforcement to ensure a fair, transparent, and respectful workplace.***
- Performance Management & Professional Development: Oversee a competency-based performance evaluation system and support the school’s training programs to foster continuous growth, accountability, and leadership readiness across the faculty and staff.***
- Total Rewards & Benefits Administration: Manage the end-to-end administration of all employee benefits programs and conduct competitive market research to maintain equitable pay practices and salary bands that attract and retains top bilingual talent.***
- Policy Development & Compliance: Design and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks that protect both the staff and the school, ensuring full alignment with DC local, state, and federal labor laws as well as Montessori foundational principles.***
- Workforce Analytics & Reporting: Maintain the accuracy and consistency of Paycom data and prepare periodic reports on key people metrics (e.g., turnover, engagement, strategic goal progress) to provide the Executive Director and Leadership Team with actionable insights.***
- Culture & Employee Wellness: In partnership with school leadership, champion initiatives related to employee safety, health, and mental wellness to sustain an engaged and high-performing school culture.***
- Strategic Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to the Leadership Team, proactively identifying organizational risks and keeping executives informed and advised related to any personnel issues that may impact on the school’s strategic objectives, reputation, or legal liability.***
- Departmental Planning: Contribute to the development of annual HR goals, objectives, and departmental systems that scale with the school’s growth and evolving educational mandates.***

Basic Qualifications
- Communication: Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish to address a diverse workforce and conduct complex employee relations investigations.
- Cognitive Analysis: Ability to interpret complex labor laws, analyze workforce data, and exercise independent judgment in high-stakes disciplinary or legal matters.
- Technical Proficiency: Frequent use of HRIS software (Paycom), and data reporting tools and high proficiency with the use of a computer.
- Confidentiality: Ability to maintain and protect highly sensitive personnel information and legal documentation.

Advanced Professional Credentials
- HR Certification: Possession of SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification is highly preferred, demonstrating a commitment to the highest standards of HR practice.
- Education: Master’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business, Organizational Development, or another related field.
- Work Experience: Seven plus years of progressive HR experience with a history of broad generalist expertise and demonstrated high-level decision-making responsibility/impact. Broad knowledge and experience in benefits administration, compensation, recruitment/selection, organization development, employee relations, safety, and training and development required.
Bilingual & Cultural Fluency
- Linguistic Proficiency: Native or professional-level fluency in both Spanish and English (written and verbal), with the ability to translate complex benefit and policy information accurately for all staff.
- Cultural Competence: Demonstrated experience working within diverse, multicultural environments and a deep understanding of the unique workforce dynamics in the District of Columbia.
Sector-Specific Experience
- Charter School Expertise: Previous HR experience within a DC Public Charter School (PCS) or a similar educational non-profit.
- Montessori Alignment: Familiarity with or a strong affinity for Montessori philosophy, specifically the values of respect, independence, and community-building, and how these translate to staff culture.
Technical & Strategic Skills
- Systems Savvy: Advanced proficiency with HRIS and Payroll platforms (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, or Paycom) and the ability to leverage these tools for workforce analytics and reporting.
- Data-Driven Mindset: Experience using data to drive "Hire for Attitude, Train for Skill" initiatives or other strategic retention and engagement programs.
- Legal Acumen: A strong "sole practitioner" mindset with the ability to navigate DC-specific labor laws (such as the DC Family and Medical Leave Act and Wage Theft Prevention Act) with minimal external supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Schedule: 12-month full-time position (8:30 am- 4:30 pm)
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $75,000-$85,000. Generous benefits package includes medical insurance (health, dental, & vision), retirement plan, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, flexible spending account (medical, dependent care, and transit), and vacation/sick leave.
